Family returning home shot during attempted robbery

Police believe suspects may have targeted others

HOUSTON – A father and son returning home were ambushed by two men who pulled a gun, demanded money and shot them.

Marcos Peralta's father, mother and brother had just parked their car at the Ranch At City Park complex early Thursday morning when they were attacked.

"They parked somewhere around here and my brother said the guys just came right after them, rushed them," Peralta, said.

The complex is located just off Highway 288 near Orem.

Peralta said the suspects "pulled a gun on them and shot [his brother] him up and then started shooting at my dad."

Police believe the suspects, who got away in a gold SUV, may have targeted others in the area overnight.

"The suspects do fit the description of previous incidents earlier in the evening, there were some robberies in the area," said Christopher Hassig with the Houston Police Department.

Of the family of three attacked, the mother was not shot. But the father and son both suffered gunshot wounds and were rushed to Ben Taub General Hospital.

Family members said the victims are expected to survive.
