HOUSTON – A Houston family has filed a lawsuit, following a massive fire at a motel that left four firefighters dead.
Capt. Bill Dowling was injured on May 31, 2013 -- the deadliest day in Houston Fire Department history.

Believing people were trapped in a fire that engulfed the Southwest Inn along the Southwest Freeway, Dowling led a rescue attempt during which four fellow firefighters died and 13 others were injured.
His family is suing the owner of the Southwest Inn.
The Dowlings are seeking more than $1 million in damages from Criterium Systems, which owns the Southwest Inn.
Local 2 asked Criterium Systems for comment, but were unable to get in contact with them.
