Family of 7 robbed hours before Christmas

HOUSTON – Hours before Christmas, a southeast Houston family is without Christmas gifts following a home burglary.

"How do you begin to explain it to a 7, 5, and 3-year-old?" asked mother Kenitra Bonner.

The burglars struck Monday in broad daylight while nobody was home on the 10000 block of Buffum in the Sugar Valley neighborhood.

Police have so far not made any arrests in the case. But the mother of five said the two Houston police officers working the case dropped off gifts.

"That was really nice of them," Kerry Walker, Bonner's husband, said.

Walker said he has been working two jobs to afford the kids' lengthy Christmas lists, which they started working on in July.

"My 9-year-old has Asperger's. His question is are they going to come (back) and get us," Bonner said.

The couple's children are 3, 5, 7, 9, and 16 years old.

Walker said he was not yet sure if or how he and his wife would replace the gifts meant for the children.

"I know the meaning of Christmas, but our joy has been stolen," Bonner said.
