Family, friends remember life of Kyssi Andrews

HOUSTON – Kyssi Andrews was a one-of-a-kind 7-year-old.

After all, it's not every day you see someone that young be honored as a Houston law enforcement officer, or giving guidance on how to tackle chemotherapy, as she told KPRC before her passing.

"I think happy thoughts: Like bunnies, rabbits and horses," she said.

When she was diagnosed three years ago with cancer, it was sadly one as rare as she was. Wilm's tumor, a child kidney cancer, came back with a vengeance in her lungs not long ago.

A family friend, Heather Brown, said she met Kyssi at a Texans game. Of course Kyssi made the rounds to professional games and won the hearts of Houston legends.

"She was just the sweetest angel and you never would have thought she was battling anything. Her spirit, nothing could bring her down, not even the battle that she was going through with cancer," Brown said.

Kyssi's mother, Marla Jones, a single parent, posted to Facebook yesterday to say her daughter was finally free from the disease.

"I find peace, comfort and strength knowing that Kyssi belonged TOTALLY to GOD, that HE trusted me with HIS child and that I did the best that I could with what I had to allow her to live a life better than many (including myself)."

It's clear Kyssi brought everyone who met her during her short time on earth joy and happiness, proving anyone at any age can inspire others to fight the good fight.

For several years Kyssi's mother says they've lived in faith. That's why they are calling her funeral a coming home celebration. It will be this Saturday, the time and location are to be determined.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help with expenses for Kyssi and Marla.  Click here to donate.
