PASADENA, Texas - People claiming to be relatives of a newborn baby that was abandoned outside a Pasadena medical facility are fighting to get the child back.

A physician's associate at Bayside Urgent Care, 4001 Preston Ave., found the baby boy outside the building around 9:30 p.m. on Sept 1.

Investigators said the baby was only a few hours old and was full-term. The baby was checked out at Bayshore Medical Center and was in good condition. Children's Protective Services took custody of the child.

CPS officials have said a woman claiming to be the mother's sister came forward on Sept. 4 and explained that the woman was overwhelmed with her other children. The woman told detectives that she regretted abandoning the baby and wants the child placed in a relative's care.

Investigators are conducting tests to determine if the woman is indeed the mother of the child. If she is, officials will inform a judge and possibly do home studies on relatives who may be able to care for the child.

The child is currently in foster care.
