Families push forward amid heavy flooding in Katy

KATY, Texas – Similar to millions of others across the city, families in Katy are working to salvage their homes after a devastating storm passed over Houston during the weekend.

The rain started late Sunday night and for most of Monday only kept coming.

Streets, like Hunter Lane in Katy, are now looking more like creeks.

Mark Janik, whose mother's home flooded said, "It happened within 30 minutes from 6:30 - 7 p.m. And it's currently knee-high in the house. The whole downstairs is out."

Just down the road in Brookshire, it was a similar story.

Dozens of high water rescues as the result of rain have not been seen here in decades.

Lyndon Stamps the Brookshire fire chief explained, "A lot of calls we received where people who couldn't get out of their houses, a lot of elderly people we had to go save as well."

Over a foot of rain in a matter of hours flooded out several homes, such as James Williams'.

The family spent much of the day salvaging what they could, but are just thankful to still be alive.

James Williams, whose home flooded said, "It's Mother Nature, there's not much really you can do; you have to pick up the pieces and move forward from there."

As water levels across the area slowly continue to fall, all eyes are on the radar.

The possibility of more rain could be looming in the forecast.

"More rain up until Wednesday, you just pray that it misses us," said Janik.
