A judge has sentenced a former Spring Branch ISD teacher to one year in jail and one year probation for having sex with a 15-year-old student.
Kathryn Murray, 31, was sentenced on Tuesday.
Last month, Murray pleaded guilty to one count of improper relationship with a student and one count of sexual assault of a child.
Murray was charged after investigators learned about her relationship with a 15-year-old boy who she was supposed to be tutoring.
Investigators say the former Memorial Middle School teacher had several sexual encounters with him.
According to court documents, on one occasion, Murray picked the eighth-grader up at a school dance after his father had dropped him off. Investigators said Murray took him to a hotel room where they had sex.
The next night, investigators said she went to the boy's home to have sex with him while his parents were gone.
While free on bail last year, Murray was again arrested after the teen ran away from home and was found at her house. The teacher was charged with harboring a runaway, a charge that was dropped as part of her plea agreement.
Murray has been ordered to have no contact with the boy for at least two years.
She's also been ordered to surrender her teaching license.
