Report: Edward Herrmann, of 'Gilmore Girls,' dies

Character actor Edward Herrmann, who played Richard Gilmore on "Gilmore Girls," died Wednesday at the age of 71, TMZ.com reported.

Herrmann had been battling brain cancer and had been in an ICU in New York for more than three weeks, his family told TMZ. He did not improve and his family decided to take him off the respirator, the site said.

Herrmann also recently appeared in several episodes of "The Good Wife" and was known for starring with Macaulay Culkin in "Richie Rich."

He received Emmy nominations for his portrayal of former president Franklin D. Roosevelt and narrated many shows on the History Channel and PBS.
