Equestrian center in Tomball damaged by severe weather

Several buildings on property were destroyed, others damaged

TOMBALL, Texas – Workers at the Saddlebrook Equestrian Center in Tomball say several buildings on the property were destroyed and others damaged by high winds when severe weather ripped through the area.

"Things were very eerie," said Cathleen Hopkins, general manager of the center.

Hopkins said the storm lasted several minutes and the winds were intense.

Roofs were ripped off a few covered shelters for the horses, large pieces of wood pierced the side of the equipment barn and a 100-year-old tree was uprooted.

The center boards kids of all ages for summer riding camps. They were on the property when the storm blew through. No one was hurt but they were frightened, Hopkins told Local 2.

Sixty horses that are housed in the stables were not hurt. All of them have been checked out and their owners notified.

Workers will clean up the damage Saturday.
