Armed robbers on the run after killing victim

HOUSTON – Houston police are searching for the group of armed robbers who killed a man in southwest Houston on Saturday night.

According to investigators, the thieves held the victim at gunpoint around 9 p.m. at the Rockport Apartment complex on Nairn Street near S. Gessner Road and demanded his wallet.

"There was two shots and he fell there," resident Jorge Perez said.

The victim lived in an apartment on the second floor. According to his wife, who didn't want to appear on camera, her husband and family were celebrating her birthday when the shooting happened.

She says at about 8:30 p.m. her husband left their home to walk some family members to their car when the robbers pulled up and tried to rob them at gunpoint.

The victim's wife says the crooks got away with a wallet and some jewelry, but her husband was left behind in a pool of blood.

The family's neighbors in the unit downstairs called 911 and paramedics took him to Ben Taub Hospital, where he died.

The group of robbers fled the scene in a car, which Houston police officers later found abandoned on Chimney Rock Road.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call the Houston Police Department.
