Electrical box catches fire near shuttle at Space Center

HOUSTON – An electrical box caught fire Tuesday morning near the shuttle on display at the Space Center Houston.

The fire was reported about 2:30 p.m. at the visitor’s center on NASA Road 1.

Firefighters said when they arrived they could see thick smoke coming from a large electrical box that controls lights for the space shuttle and the carrier it’s mounted on.

After the fire was extinguished, electricians were called to repair the wiring.

The fire was not expected to affect visitors to the display.
