An elderly woman has died Tuesday morning, after a house fire in southwest Houston.

The Houston Fire Department responded to the fire around 8:30 p.m. Monday at a home on Glenn Ricki Drive near White Heather Drive. Fire crews saw clouds of smoke billowing from the one-story home.

Firefighters broke into the house and found the elderly woman on the floor near a stove, which had caught fire.

Investigators believe she suffered from smoke inhalation after the fire sparked.

Emergency responders rushed her to Memorial Hermann Hospital in extremely critical condition.
