HOUSTON -

A 74-year-old Walmart greeter is recovering after being pushed to the ground by a shoplifting suspect.

The suspect appeared before a judge Wednesday and his wife is also facing charges for her role in the attempted heist.

Michael Craig, 22, has been charged with aggravated robbery. Prosecutors believe Ty-Miah Craig, 33, is Craig's wife.

According to court documents, the couple was trying to walk out of a Walmart on Dunvale near Westheimer when the greeter asked for a receipt.

“The-74-year old, he was pushed to the ground, striking his head and his shoulder and had to be transported to the hospital,” said Sarah Mickelson with the Harris County District Attorney's Office.

According to investigators, Michael Craig also stole a bystander's purse and pushed the woman after she witnessed what happened and tried to intervene. The woman told investigators she suffered rope burn type injuries and broken nails during the scuffle but her boyfriend chased after the suspect and got her purse back.

Ty-Miah Craig has been charged with robbery. Both suspects remained jailed in the Harris County jail.

The 74-year-old victim spoke to Local 2 but didn't want to be identified. He said he still suffers from occasional pain in his neck and lower back but recently returned to work.
