Elderly man carjacked in Conroe Walmart parking lot

Police arrest 2 suspects in connection to carjacking

CONROE – Police have arrested two suspects they say are responsible for carjacking an elderly man in a Walmart parking lot in Conroe.

"If you are not safe here, you are not safe anywhere," one Walmart shopper told us.

Conroe police said just after 8 a.m. Thursday, the victim had just dropped his wife off at the front door and was pulling into the handicapped spot when a man approached him with a gun.

"As he was parking, a black male subject just rushed him, stuck a gun in his side, demanded his car keys, which the victim gave, and took off in the vehicle," says Sgt. Dorcy Riddle with the Conroe Police Department.

Investigators were looking for the vehicle -- a Dodge truck with Texas license plate number 4GV-GD.

Residents said there has been a recent rash in violent crime and it is becoming all too common.

"No, I am not shocked, stuff happens all over the place; people are getting more desperate with the bad times and everything," said a shopper.

Investigators say Thursday's carjacking is similar to one that happened on Monday in the Petsmart parking lot just down the road.

In that case, detectives said a 70-year-old woman was carjacked at gunpoint. She said she had just parked her SUV and was getting out when the man approached her driver's side door.

"When I looked up there was a man standing at the window, with the door blocking his body all I could see was his chest up," says Trudie Underwood.

Thursday evening, Conroe police arrested two people they said were connected to the elderly man's carjacking and possibly other related crimes in Conroe.

This was also the same Walmart that was the scene of an officer-involved shooting Wednesday night.
