All lanes of Interstate 10 westbound between 45 and 59 reopened Saturday night.
An 18-wheeler lost a roll of steel and overturned on the interstate Friday afternoon, causing all mainlanes to be closed.
The force left several holes in the roadway. Exposed steel reinforcement could be seen in the middle of the holes. The concrete that had covered the steel fell to the ground below.
"They'll go in there, they'll fill the concrete and they'll have to jackhammer some of that in there, and they'll have to go back and fill it with fresh concrete," said TXDOT spokesman Danny Perez.
Perez said making the repairs was a slow process that required jackhammers, fresh concrete and patience.
The freeway reopened ahead of schedule. Originally, officials had said the freeway would reopen Sunday morning.
Traffic officials advised drivers to use 610 as an alternate route during the closure.
