HOUSTON – A record number of voters cast ballots during the two-week period of early voting.
Some voters waited in long lines around Harris County to vote ahead of Tuesday's general election.
"I thought since it was early voting I'd zip in and zip out. Took me about an hour and a half to get through," said voter Eric Uribe.
Early voting began on Oct. 22 and ended on Friday.
Texans were allowed to cast a ballot at any polling place in their county of residence during the early-voting period.
As of 7 p.m. Friday, 766,526 registered voters in Harris County had voted early, according to the Harris County Elections Office. Approximately 678,300 people voted early in the 2008 presidential election.
Secretary of State Hope Andrade said Texas also has a record number of voters with more than 13.64 million registered to cast ballots. The previous record number of Texans registered to vote was more than 13.57 million during the November 2008 general election.
The polls are open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
