Duo arrested after dog in distress, drugs found at Rosenberg hotel

ROSENBERG, Texas – Two people staying at a Regency Inn in the 28000 block of I-69 were arrested during a property check Sunday.

Police said upon contact with a man and woman who were staying at the hotel, they found marijuana, synthetic marijuana and cocaine in their possession and a female pit bill mix that appeared to be in distress, along with minor wounds on her back and paws.

Police said Nathan Lara, 23, told them he was the owner of the dog and that she had access to the narcotics in the hotel room. There was also no food or water present in the hotel room, police said.

Lara was arrested and charged with cruelty to a non-livestock animal. He was booked into the Rosenberg City Jail and later transferred to Fort Bend County Jail, where he was awaiting bail.

Police said a woman who was also in the room, Stephanie Harger, 23, told them the room was registered to her and acknowledged that she was in possession of the narcotics.

Harger was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance 1-4 grams, possession of a controlled substance less than 2 ounces and possession of marijuana. She is in custody at Fort Bend County Jail, where her bail was set at $11,000.

The pit bull was taken to Rosenberg Animal Control to be cared for.
