Driver slams into wooden utility pole, knocks out power

HOUSTON – Deputies said speed played a role in a major crash involving a power pole in northwest Harris County Saturday night.

According to investigators, three men in a Cadillac CTS were speeding south on Northcrest Drive near Klein Oak Lane when the driver lost control in a curve.

The car went off the road and slammed into a wooden power pole, splitting the pole in half, deputies said.

The 19-year-old driver was flown to the hospital in serious condition.

Deputies said one of the passengers fled the scene, but the other waited for deputies to arrive.

The power was temporarily out in the area because of the wreck, but CenterPoint crews managed to restore it in a matter of hours.
