HOUSTON -

A woman was taken to the hospital early Wednesday after she crashed into an 18-wheeler while trying to make a U-turn in southeast Houston.

According to the Houston Police Department, the woman slammed her Nissan Altima into the side of the tractor-trailer at Dixie Farm Road near the Gulf Freeway. The accident nearly sheared off the top of the car, but amazingly, the woman only suffered minor injuries.

Police said the 18-wheeler’s driver cut his hand while trying to help her out of the vehicle. Investigators said they found an open bottle inside the woman’s car and believe alcohol did play a factor in the accident.
