Driver shoots at officers, leads high-speed chase in north Houston, deputies say

Small bags of cocaine, marijuana allegedly found after driver arrested

HOUSTON – A man is in jail Saturday after authorities said he fired multiple times at deputies and then drove off, leading the officers in a high speed chase through north Houston.

Deputies were investigating a minor accident April 23 when a truck sped past them and the driver started firing several times at the officers, according to the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable Office.

Jayson Richard Mouton, 37, is charged with evading arrest in a motor vehicle, possession of a controlled substance and deadly conduct. According to a release, deputies chased Mouton to FM 2920 and Holzwarth Road after the shooting. Officials said the driver suddenly stopped at the intersection but then sped away again when deputies approached his vehicle.

Officers followed Mouton for a short distance until he was stopped.

Investigators said Mouton got out of his truck and threw an object on the ground before being arrested. Deputies said the discarded item contained clear plastic baggies with 0.3 grams of cocaine and 0.1 ounces of marijuana. Spent shell casings, a box of bullets and two gun clips were also found in the vehicle, deputies said.

Mouton was taken to the Harris County Jail, where his bond was set at $37,000.
