HOUSTON -

Police are looking for the driver who took off running after a deadly crash in southwest Houston.

The accident occurred around 11:15 p.m. Sunday on the outbound Southwest Freeway feeder road near Club Creek.

Houston police say a pickup was speeding down the feeder road when the driver lost control and crashed into a utility pole.

The driver of the pickup ran off.

Officials say a 27-year-old man died at the scene. Another passenger was taken and another was taken to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

While emergency crews were at the scene of the accident, a vehicle collided with an HPD squad car. Authorities did not say if there were any injuries or charges stemming from that collision.

Houston police said through their investigation they learned that the driver of the pickup was fleeing from an earlier traffic accident in the 7500 block of Bellaire Boulevard.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to call the HPD Hit and Run Unit at 713-247-4065 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
