The driver of a pickup truck is dead after slamming into the back of an 18-wheeler.
It happened around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday on the North Freeway and FM 1960 in north Harris County.
Investigators said an 18-wheeler pulled over into the right shoulder of the freeway out of the main lanes, as he was checking a warning light on his rig.
While he was stopped, a white, four-door pickup truck driving at a high rate of speed, slammed into the back of the rig.
The impact was so severe, it pushed the engine and front seats into the back of the pickup truck.
The driver died at the scene.
The driver of the 18-wheeler was not hurt.
The medical examiner will work to determine if alcohol was a factor.
