Instead, police said, the driver took off and led police on a chase around northeast Houston and the North Loop.

The driver drove down Chapman Street and stopped in front of a house.

He jumped out and ran away.

The officer lost sight of the driver when he jumped a fence around a yard.

Houston police searched the area with K-9 units, but they did not find him.

Officers said they believe the man went to that area because he knew someone and was able to duck into a home.

They said it was not clear why he ran away.
