HOUSTON -

Bellaire police and Houston police spent several hours Friday morning searching for two people, who officers said were involved in a high-speed chase.

According to investigators, the chase started in the city of Bellaire and ended near Blalock Road and I-10.

A Bellaire police officer reportedly spotted a dark-colored BMW that was speeding and attempted to pull it over. Police said the driver took off and merged onto 610. He then headed west on I-10, but ended up crashing on the feeder road near Blalock Road.

According to officers, the suspects didn't give up easily. After the crash, police said both the driver and his passenger jumped out of the car and started running.

Police found the suspected driver hiding in a nearby ditch.

When Local 2 reporter Mark Boyle questioned that man, he denied running from the police.

"No, sir, I had a panic attack. I keep telling them, and they won't let me tell you what happened. And I lost control of my vehicle, and that's what happened," said the man suspected of being behind the wheel.

Police said they weren't able to find the second man that was in the car, but hoped the driver would reveal the identity of his passenger.

It was still unclear Friday morning why the driver drove away from police in the first place. Officers believed he threw something out of one of the car windows during the chase.
