HOUSTON - A driver has been charged in connection with a multivehicle collision that killed a man.
Mytreka Neshell Ealem, 31, has been charged with intoxication manslaughter.
Houston police said Ealem was driving a Ford Expedition southbound on state Highway 6 near Westheimer about 4:50 p.m. Wednesday.
Detectives said Ealem crossed the center divider and collided with a Ford Escape that was traveling northbound.
Ealem then hit a Hyundai Santa Fe, police said. The driver of the Santa Fe lost control and was hit by two more vehicles, investigators said.
Two people in the back seat of the Santa Fe were thrown out of the vehicle, officials said.
A 42-year-old male passenger died at Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital, investigators said. His name has not been released. The other passenger was hospitalized in serious condition.
Detectives said Ealem was under the influence of illegal narcotics at the time of the wreck.
