LA PORTE, Texas - A man is in custody after he led police on a chase through three cities in the Houston area, according to police.
Around 9 a.m. Saturday, Houston police were called out to a home at 11600 Lafferty Oaks for an argument between a father and son.
"The first officer that arrived tried to stop to get his side of the story, but he took off in the green Honda," said Sgt. Paul George of HPD.
Demario Valdez, 25, led police through Baytown, Deer Park and La Porte, all while obeying the speed limit.
"Why was I driving? Because I felt like it," Valdez said.
Police said Valdez even slowed down at intersections and used turning signals.
"He didn't have any weapons on him and never gave a logical reason of why he ran from us for so long," Sgt. George said. "I think he was just mad at his father."
The chase turned violent, however, when police said Valdez almost ran over three officers.
"After he almost ran over me when I deployed my spike strips, he took it from felony evading to aggravated assault on a police officer," said Sgt. George.
Valdez finally stopped at a fence on Port Road but barricaded himself inside his car for 30 minutes before giving himself up.
"He was yelling at the officer, he was being difficult to take into custody, refusing to follow commands, thrashing, they did pepper spray him for their safety," said Jodi Silva.
Officials said Valdez will be charged with multiple counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.
