KATY, Texas -

A Department of Public Safety traffic stop turned into a high-speed chase, crash and take down in Katy early Friday morning, troopers said.

Investigators say they still do not know why the driver of a Chevrolet Avalanche refused to pull over for troopers on Highway 6 and Little York.

The driver led them on a high-speed chase, reaching speeds up to 80 mph, according to initial reports.

The chase ended seven miles later, when troopers say the driver turned onto a dead end street, then crashed into barriers at the end of Brackenfern Drive.

Investigators say the driver did not stop there. According to investigators, he got out of the pickup and ran behind homes in the neighborhood.

He ended up crossing a bayou, but troopers chasing the driver eventually managed to arrest him, investigators say.

It was unclear why the man ran, although troopers say they did find drug paraphernalia in his possession.
