Trump asks African-Americans to give him a chance

AUSTIN, Texas – During a rally in Austin, Donald Trump asked African-Americans to give him a chance to better their lives.

The Republican nominee spoke to a packed house at the Travis County Expo Center on Tuesday.

"I will fix the problem with rates of crime, of poverty," said Trump. "I say this to the African-American community, 'Give Donald Trump a chance.' We will turn it around. We will make your streets safe so when you walk down the street, you don't get shot."

Without going into specifics, Trump also promised job growth and greater access to higher education. It was on the topic of job growth that Trump made his grandest statement of the night.

"I will be the greatest jobs president that ever, God ever created. Believe me," said Trump.

A handful of protesters briefly interrupted Trump as they were escorted out. An announcer warned the crowd the rally was a "private event, paid for by Mr. Trump."
