HOUSTON -

A dog missing for seven years has been reunited with its family in Texas.

The original owners of Simon the pug met with volunteers from PugHearts of Houston, a non-profit rescue group, for the long-awaited reunion on Sunday.

The dog was turned in to a Pensacola, Florida, shelter by a homeless man who could not take care of him anymore.

Once at the animal shelter, Simon's microchip was scanned and they discovered he was reported missing seven years ago.

PugHearts started a relay of drivers to help bring Simon 700 miles to get home.

Simon's owner says the pup is happy to be back with them in Temple, Texas.
