Doctor accused of poisoning lover's coffee heads to court

HOUSTON – The MD Anderson doctor accused of spiking her former lover's coffee with a deadly poison was in court on Wednesday.

Court documents state Dr. Ana Maria Gonzalez-Angulo was in a casual sexual relationship with Dr. George Blumenschein.

According to court records, in January Gonzalez-Angulo gave Blumenschein a cup of coffee that was sweetened with a chemical commonly found in anti-freeze and medical research. Hours later Blumenschein was in the emergency room.

He remains hospitalized. .      

A judge reset Dr. Gonzalez-Angulo's case for August 1.

She is on paid administrative leave.
