HOUSTON –
Whether you're a football fan or just a fan of fun times, “Super Bowl Live” is the place to be as the countdown to Super Bowl LI begins.
The 10-day, free festival will be filled with music, food, games and attractions for people of all ages. Super Bowl Live is scheduled to run Jan. 27 – Feb. 5, 2017.
“The name came out of an idea that hosting a variety of activities that people can experience live and in person,” said Hasting Stewert, the Executive Vice President for Public Affairs for the Super Bowl. “It seemed like a play on words. Super Bowl L-I, Super Bowl Live seemed like a good fit and the NFL is certainly happy about that and hosting it.”
The festival — now called Super Bowl LIVE — is free event with music, games and attractions. It’s scheduled to run from Jan. 27 until Feb. 5 next year.
Host Committee President and CEO Sallie Sargent said, “Super Bowl LIVE is an opportunity for everyone in Houston, as well as from around the state, to enjoy a great Super Bowl experience and be a part of the excitement.”
Super Bowl Live will be twice the size of San Francisco's fan experience -- and is expected to draw more than 1 million people.
San Francisco’s festival, Super Bowl City, drew 1.1 million people in February before Super Bowl 50.
The footprint for Super Bowl LIVE will be roughly twice the size of San Francisco’s event, which was held at the Embarcadero.
The Host Committee also debuted its final Countdown Clock Tuesday in Discovery Green on the Brown Promenade near Jones Lawn. The 15-foot-tall, football-shaped clock features a Host Committee logo on top that lights up at night.
It is the fourth clock installed by the Host Committee around Houston. The other clocks are located at
NRG Stadium, on JFK Boulevard near Bush Intercontinental Airport and inside the main terminal at Hobby Airport.
