Detectives: YMCA bus fire ruled arson

Surveillance video shows bus catching fire

HOUSTON – A bus that belonged to a YMCA was intentionally set on fire and burnt to a crisp, according to investigators.

It happened at the D. Bradley McWilliams YMCA on state Highway 249 near Cypresswood on Friday.

According to investigators, surveillance video shows the people suspected of starting the fire. They appear to be 15 to 20 years old, officials said.

"You see some video of them take some trash out of the bucket, then you see them go to the bus area and you see the flames," said one investigator.

The YMCA does have insurance and does lease other buses.

"Luckily, right now we're in an off season, but we are getting close to when we have to figure out how we're going to transport kids without having that bus," said Stacy Morella with the YMCA.

According to investigators, those responsible will face felony charges.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222 TIPS.
