Detectives raid convenience store, seize synthetic drugs

SWEENEY, Texas – A six-month long investigation culminated with the arrests of two men and the seizure of more than $100,000 worth of synthetic drugs, investigators said.

Lt. Chris Rieoux told Local 2 Investigates that detectives with the Brazoria County Sheriff's Narcotics Task Force received a tip that synthetic drugs were being sold under the counter at the Sweeney Stop Texaco off state Highway 35.

Detectives said they seized dozens of packets of "Kush" and "bath salts" from the store and from the home of a store employee. Investigators also seized $15,000 in cash from the business.

Kamlesh Chadotaria and Shoaib Dilawar were both arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute, a felony. Both men are currently in the Brazoria County Jail and Rieoux said both men are in the country illegally.

Last month, Local 2 reported that the Houston area is in the No. 1 spot in Texas when it comes reported poisonings from synthetic or so-called "designer" drugs.
