THE WOODLANDS, Texas – A sheriff's deputy opened fire on a man who rammed a security guard in a mall parking lot, detectives said.
Montgomery County sheriff's deputies said the incident happened at The Woodlands Mall about noon on Wednesday.
Detectives said Taud Damonn Washington, 41, tried to use a stolen credit card at several stores, but it was refused at all of them. He finally gave up and went to his car, but mall security and deputies were already following him.
Investigators used their cars to box Washington into a parking spot. A deputy went over to Washington's car and Washington refused to open his door, investigators said. Washington then backed the car into a mall security vehicle, deputies said.
Washington then pulled forward toward the deputy and the deputy fired a shot into his windshield, investigators said.
No one was wounded.
Washington surrendered to deputies and was taken into custody. He will face an aggravated assault charge and possibly a credit card abuse charge, officials said.
Washington is a registered sex offender who has previously been convicted of aggravated robbery, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, drug possession, public lewdness, indecent exposure, credit card abuse, trespassing and theft. He has been sentenced to more than 23 years in prison, state jails and county jail since 1995.
