Deputy hit by car; man in custody, officials say

FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas – A deputy is recovering from minor injuries after he was hit by a vehicle while directing traffic in the Sienna Plantation neighborhood on Thursday.

Fort Bend County officials said John Eells, 70, of Missouri City, intentionally drove his car at Detective D. Calvillo while Calvillo was directing traffic on Sienna Plantation Road on Thursday afternoon.

Eells gave the middle finger to Calvillo before driving towards him in his white Mercedes-Benz, according to authorities.

Investigators said Calvillo was nearly hit by the car so the detective decided to get in his vehicle and follow Eells.

The detective caught up to Eells a couple miles later and got out of his car. That's when authorities said Eells hit Calvillo with his side-view mirror.

Eells is in custody and faces charges of aggravated assault and DWI, officials said.

Calvillo has minor swelling on his arm, but is feeling OK, authorities said.

Investigators said Eells admitted to driving drunk and told deputies that he didn't like police officers because he didn't trust them.

We will update you with information when we receive it.
