Deputy constable kills man at northeast Houston store

HOUSTON – A deputy constable fatally shot a chase suspect at a northeast Houston convenience store, investigators said.

Harris County Precinct 3 deputy constables said one of their deputies was buying a drink at a Shell station on Market and Sheldon about 8:30 a.m. on Thursday when the clerk asked for help with a disturbance in the back room.

Investigators said someone was trespassing and the deputy constable confronted the man.

The suspect lunged at the deputy constable and then the deputy constable fired one shot, killing the man, detectives said.

Investigators said the suspect was involved in a chase at east Harris County about 5 a.m.

The chase ended in a crash and the man ran away, detectives said. Deputy constables said a holster and shell casings were found in the car, so they believed he was armed.

The suspect's name has not been released.

The deputy constable involved in the shooting is a sergeant and has been with Precinct 3 for more than 10 years.
