Deputy constable faces child sexual assault charge

Gerardo Hernandez accused of sexually assaulting child in 2002

HOUSTON – A Harris County Precinct 4 deputy constable has been fired after being accused of sexually assaulting a child.

Gerardo Hernandez, who had been on the force since 2008, was terminated after being taken into custody shortly before starting his shift on Tuesday.

Precinct 4 officials said they were notified moments before his arrest that there was an open warrant from San Antonio regarding a charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child.

According court documents, Hernandez was indicted on July 20. The charges stem from an alleged incident in Bexar County in 2002. San Antonio police said they were not made aware of the incident until December 2011.

If the allegations are found to be true, the crime would have occurred a year before Hernandez became an officer and started his career as a public servant.
