Deputies: Teen sexually assaults girl during parade

Christopher Craighead charged with sexual assault of child

COLDSPRING, Texas – A teenager has been accused of sexually assaulting a girl at a Christmas celebration.

Christopher Craighead, 17, has been charged with sexual assault of a child.

San Jacinto County sheriff's deputies said the 12-year-old girl was attacked during the Christmas on the Square parade in Coldspring on Saturday.

Details of the assault were not released. Investigators would only say that the girl told her parents later that night.

"They were away from the crowd, of course, and charges ended up being filed of sexual assault of a child," said Darryl Lamott with the San Jacinto County Sheriff's Office.

Craighead was arrested and booked into the San Jacinto County Detention Center with bond set at $150,000.

A school district spokesman said Craighead was a student at Coldspring High School until his parents withdrew him two weeks ago.

Authorities said they are not discounting the possibility that there may be more victims and encourage anyone with information to come forward.

Investigators said there's nothing to indicate that Craighead and the 12-year-old had any kind of relationship prior to Saturday's alleged incident.
