HOUSTON – One of two men who held up a northwest Harris County gas station was shot when deputies arrived, investigators said.

Detectives said Kortnay Andrus was armed with a gun. The clerk hit a silent alarm and deputies arrived quickly.

"When (deputies) pulled in, (the robbery suspects) were trying to exit the business," said Thomas Gilliland of the Harris County Sheriff's Office. "At that point, as (Kourtnay Andrus) walked out, he had the weapon in his hand and he raised it up. At that point, the deputies fired."

Kourtnay Andrus suffered at least three wounds and was taken by helicopter to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition.

Deputies said Kydell Andrus then surrendered and was taken into custody.

The clerk and a customer who was in the store during the robbery were not injured.

Investigators said they think the suspects were involved in two other robberies in the same area.

"We've had some that fit this description of these two suspects," Gilliland said. "Hopefully these will be the guys who were robbing other businesses up and down here on North (state Highway) 6."
