HARRIS COUNTY, Texas -

An investigation is underway after an off-duty police officer shot and killed a man in a Walgreens parking lot. That shooting happened just before 9:00 p.m. Saturday at the Walgreens on Antoine and Veterans Memorial.

Investigators with the Harris County Sheriff's Office said the off-duty officer is employed with Prairie View A&M and was working a second job at the Walgreen's Saturday evening. According to investigators, employees at the Walgreen's recognized a suspect who is known to pass bad checks. They said the officer tried to make contact with the man, but the man ran away and a struggle followed in the store's parking lot.

Investigators say during the struggle the officer used his taser, but there was no effect on the suspect. The officer told investigators he fired at the suspect after the man got into his vehicle and tried to drive toward him.

Deputies with the Harris County Sheriff's Office are investigating the shooting, along with the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
