HARRIS COUNTY -

A 17-year-old boy was killed after a man found the teen in his daughter's bedroom early Thursday morning, according to investigators.

Deputy constables from the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable's Office were first called to the home in the 22000 block of Bridgestone Ridge Drive at around 2:20 a.m. Thursday. The 17-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released.

According to investigators, a homeowner shot the teen after he was discovered in the bedroom of the man's 16-year-old daughter. They say the girl initially denied knowing the boy and an argument between the two males followed. The homeowner reportedly shot the teenager after the teen appeared to reach for something.

"There was some type of altercation and the father shot the teen once," said Sgt. Ben Beall with the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

Beall said following the shooting, the 55-year-old homeowner was taken to the hospital for an underlying medical condition.

After the investigation is complete, the case will be forwarded to the grand jury to determine whether the homeowner will face charges.

Local 2 legal expert Brian Wice said based on what has been reported to this point, it appears to be a case of self-defense.

"As a father, your immediate sense, your primal instinct is protection. I think in this situation, the grand jury will recognize that story, the big picture," said Wice.

Sheriff's deputies said there were a total of four children home at the time of the shooting; the youngest being four years old. The homeowner's wife was at work.
