A child died after being run over by a pickup truck in what appears to be a tragic accident in northwest Harris County.
The incident happened at around 11:30 a.m. Friday in the 16900 block of Chapel Pines Drive in northwest Harris County. Investigators say the 4-year-old victim was playing outside the family home, where he lived with his parents and grandparents.
The grandfather was exiting the house holding an infant when the boy ran away from him and behind a pickup truck driven by a neighbor, deputies say.
The child was hit and pronounced dead at the scene. Family members tell Local 2 the boy's name is Zain Ali Hussain.
"He was a very likeable kid, very friendly and not at all mischievous," said family member Mustafa Sheraze.
They say he loved to play outside.
"I saw that boy in the neighborhood so many times and I just thought I was gonna pass out," said neighbor Jane Kannin.
She said she saw the little boy outside with his grandfather and little sister right before the incident happened.
Now family members are just trying to comfort each other as best they can.
"It's absolutely unimaginable, so the parents are going through a real big shock," said Sheraze.
Officials say the driver is cooperating with them. No word yet on any charges.
