Deputies: 20-year-old man shot at party in Baytown

Man taken to hospital in critical condition with gunshot wound to the head

BAYTOWN, Texas – Investigators are continuing to investigate and collect evidence, as they try to figure out what lead up to the shooting of a 20-year-old man at a house party in Baytown.

"That is scary, guns to a birthday party, that is not good," said neighbor Jerry Kinsel.

A party for a 21-year-old girl turned violent when police said shots rang out around 2 a.m. in the Meadowlake Village subdivision.

Neighbors said there were 50 plus people for a party at the house on Mohave Circle and Omaha Drive.

"It was quiet a bit, the street was pretty full," said neighbor Luis Gurrola.

Neighbors who heard the gunshots, looked outside and saw dozens of people running and jumping in their cars.

"There was a party going on in the backyard. A group of males was already at the party, a second group arrived, the two groups of males got into some sort of altercation," said Sgt. Robert Spurgeon of the Harris County Homicide Unit. "The newly arrived group produced a firearm, striking one of the individuals at the party in the head."

A 20-year-old man was taken by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the head, according to police.

Neighbors said they are shocked something like that could happen so close to home.

"I have lived here for 13 years and this is the first time we have ever had an incident like this," said Kinsel. "I really don't know what is going on."

"It just makes you realize it can happen anywhere to anyone, so we just have to be careful," said Gurrola.

Investigators are still looking for the shooter, Anyone with information is asked to call the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

Police said the shooting victim may have actually been one of the uninvited guests.
