A young mother has died after a drive-by shooting in west Harris County. Deputies say two people were arrested, and one of them is the victim's ex-boyfriend.
Investigators identified the victim as 18-year-old Alyssa Guerrera. We're told she was sitting in front of her house when her ex-boyfriend and his friend pulled up and started shooting.
Chalk markings show where a couple of the gunshots hit a home on Montclair Meadow Lane as Guerrera was sitting outside of her family's home with her 23-year-old boyfriend. Guerrera was flown to Memorial Hermann Hospital after one of the bullets hit her in the head.
Authorities say she died Thursday evening.
"They're real nice people. Real nice people. That's why I couldn't believe it."
Investigators say earlier in the evening, there was an altercation at the home between the victim's current boyfriend and her ex-boyfriend, who has been identified as 19-year-old Jesus Vasquez.
They say Vasquez left, but then returned with his friend, 20-year-old Larry Roberts. As both of them sat in a vehicle, investigators say they fired several rounds at the couple.
Aldo Sanchez says Guerrera is a friend who has an infant daughter.
"I was with her at 2 o'clock and this happened at 9:30," said Sanchez. "She's really friendly. She has a lot of friends and a lot of people who care for her."
A neighbor told Local 2 they heard as many as 10 gunshots Tuesday night. The victim's boyfriend wasn't injured.
Jesus Vasquez and Larry Roberts were arrested Wednesday and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Roberts appeared before a judge Thursday morning and his bond was raised from $50,000 to $75,000.
During the court hearing, the prosecutor alleged that Roberts was the getaway driver and Vasquez was the shooter.
Bond for Vasquez was set at $50,000 on Wednesday. He is being treated in the medical unit and is expected to appear in court Friday.
Guerrera's family has set up a fund at Band of America to help with expenses. Donations can be made in her name.
