14-year-old killed in head-on collision

HOUSTON – A 14-year-old boy was killed in a head-on collision early Sunday.

According to investigators, the victim was sitting in the passenger seat of a pickup truck that was driving west on Central Street near Lawndale Street.

About 1:30 a.m., police said a minivan headed east on Central Street began drifting into oncoming traffic.

Officers said the driver of the minivan corrected the wheel and returned to the proper lane, but the driver of the pickup truck had already veered over to try and avoid the van.

The two vehicles collided head on.

According to police, the driver of the minivan was transported to the hospital in stable condition.

Investigators said the 17-year-old driving the pickup was intoxicated. He now faces charges of driving while intoxicated, but police don't believe he is at fault in the accident.

The 14-year-old passenger in the pickup truck died at the scene.
