A death investigation is underway in Liberty County after a teenage boy’s body was found.

The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office said a 911 call was placed around 1:30 p.m. Monday reporting a 13-year-old boy was hanging in a barn at a residence in the 2600 block of Highway 105 East.

Officials said the 911 call was made by the 19-year-old brother of the victim.

Authorities said during their investigation, they learned the victim, his 10-year-old brother and a friend had been playing in the family barn. Later, the two younger boys went looking for the older boy when he was found hanging from a rope attached to a rafter of the barn.

Paramedics were called to the scene and the victim was taken to an area hospital. The victim was pronounced dead and an autopsy was scheduled.

Officials said the mother of the brothers was not at home at time of the incident, but arrived soon after.

Authorities said because they are in the early stages of their investigation, they don’t know if this was an accident or an incident of foul play.
