DEER PARK, Texas -

The deadline to help save the Deer Park Prairie has been extended to September 10th.

More than $3.2 million has been raised from individuals to save the 53-acre undeveloped piece of land that conservationists see as a hidden treasure.  It is home to some extremely rare plant and wildlife.

Due to the record number of individual donors who have come forward, the Deer Park landowner has agreed to move the deadline to allow the Bayou Land Conservancy three more weeks to raise the remaining $800,0000 necessary for the $4 million purchase.

"For the landowner to provide this extra grace period, when so many people were just hearing about this special prairie for the first time, is a true blessing," said  Jaime Gonzalez with the Katy Prairie Conservancy.

The landowner had wanted to sell the land to turn into a subdivision.

Anyone who would like to help save the prairie can visit the Bayou Land Conservancy organization or call 281-576-1634.
