HOUSTON -

Medical examiners are now trying to determine how a man whose body was found in the middle of a southwest Houston street died.

A neighbor discovered the man early Thursday morning and called 911.

When Houston police officers arrived on Bellfair near Briar Terrace around 1:30 a.m., they found the man lying in a pool of blood.

Police said there was trauma, but there was so much blood they could not determine if he'd been shot, stabbed or beaten to death.

Officials later said the victim had suffered trauma to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives said the victim had no identification or wallet, which could signal a robbery.

Police said there were no witnesses.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to call the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
