Lawmaker urges airlines to drop holiday bag fees and other business news

HOUSTON – A lawmaker is asking airlines to get into the Christmas spirit and ditch holiday baggage fees.

Florida Sen. Bill Nelson slammed Spirit and Frontier airlines over a plan to increase fees during the holiday season. Spirit will raise the price by $2 for both legs of the flight, while Frontier's surcharge will range from $5 to $10.

Nelson wrote a letter the companies, calling the surcharges unfair because of declining fuel costs. He said the higher fees appear to be focused on increasing profitability on the backs of American families.

Meanwhile, Google is also getting ready for the holidays. The search giant is adding holiday hours to Google Maps and Google search results for businesses. Google said when a user searches for a business and a major holiday is within the next week, he or she will see a special holiday schedule.

Google hopes the service will help people avoid showing up to find the doors locked and save time by avoiding a phone call to the company.
