HOUSTON - A fire broke out Thursday at a southeast Houston day care center.
Firefighters were called to the Luv-N-Care learning center at 12100 Almeda Genoa at 12:30 p.m.
Fifteen to 20 children were in another building when the fire broke out. No one was inside the building that caught fire, officials said.
A neighbor noticed the fire in the rear of the building and called 911.
"I ran around the front of the building and let them know. They had no idea the back building was on fire so we let them know it was on fire and started helping to get the babies out," Erica Postel said.
"When we arrived, this house was totally involved. It took us an operation of about 14, 15 minutes to get it under control," said Jay Evans with the Houston Fire Department.
No one was injured.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. The building was destroyed.
The children were taken to Genoa Elementary School until their parents could pick them up.
"I was afraid for her safety, but they told me she was OK," parent Ignacio Ferro said.
